Today’s modern red wedding is full of tons of cute and personal details. I love when couple’s take their favorite things as inspiration for their wedding. This couple chose their shoes (the bride’s love of heels and the groom’s favorite Converse) to create fun little details throughout their wedding to make it ‘them’. I also love how they incorporated the bride’s heritage with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. But, really, you can’t get any better than a pair of bright red, big bowed Valentinos!
The gorgeous bride Cat shares the details:
We really wanted our wedding to be unique to the 2 of us and tried to pay attention to the details. I LOVE my high heels and David loves his Converse. (I got a great deal on my wedding dress, so I actually ended up spending more on my Valentino wedding shoes!) David gave Converse to all his groomsmen as gifts. Our cake topper had 2 lovebirds with shoes that matched the ones we were wearing on our wedding day, and David’s groomscake was a giant Converse as well. We also spent a lot of time planning the details of our wedding from the fortune cookie place settings to the matching candy bar.
Planning our wedding was actually more challenging than anticipated David and I are both from Oklahoma, but had recently moved to separate cities in Missouri for work. So the majority of our planning had to be coordinated out-of-state through a long distance relationship. Fortunately, we had some much appreciated help from my maid-of-honor who ran around town as our proxy and our amazing photographer who had great tips and suggestions for us for vendors and coordinating the actual flow of the wedding day.
There were two favorite moments. The first one was during our gift exchange. It was really important to David that we didn’t see each other before I was walking down the aisle, so we took care that we were hidden from each other all day. During our gift exchange, we carefully handed our gifts to each other around a door and then opened them privately. We had initially decided to just do a gift exchange without letters to each other (because I wanted to minimize the crying before the wedding!), but David had surprised me. The night before our wedding, when he had some time alone, he had written me a heartfelt letter that reminded me just how lucky I was to be marrying such an amazing man who loved me so unconditionally.
The other favorite moment: “The Kiss” For my wedding “look”, I had decided to go with a relatively neutral face and a bright red lip color. When we were announced husband and wife and given the ok to kiss the bride, without hesitation, David planted a huge kiss on me. The entire congregation bursted out laughing as David was beaming to everyone with bright red lipstick all over his face!
