You will love the neutral hues and sweet handmade details of this Florida ranch wedding from Caroline Maxcy Photography! How amazing is the ceremony arch the groom hand-crafted himself?
James and I had a beautiful barn wedding in Avon Park, Florida. We actually went to a fundraiser at the barn when we first started dating and I made the comment that it would be a beautiful place for a wedding! I never imagine two years later we’d get married there! James’ vision was “an awesome party” for the reception…other than that the rest was up to me. I hoped for a very light and airy feel with simple decorations and natural colors of green and white. With simple textures of burlap and lace. We had so many people come together to help up decorate and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding and reception. It was beyond perfect.
In my mind I knew EXACTLY what I would wear on my wedding day, and ended up choosing a dress that I almost chose not to try on. I wanted a simple lace dress that fit my silhouette and didn’t get in the way. Thankfully, one of my bridesmaids picked out this somewhat poofy dress that was so different from what I imagined, and I reluctantly tried it on. As soon as my Grandma’s tears started flowing, I thought I had found the dress… but still said no to the poof! After trying on a few more dresses I couldn’t stop thinking about “the weird one” and making Grandma cry for the second time sealed the deal, I had found my dress!
My absolute favorite part of the day was a wedding gift I received from my Mom. Growing up, my Mom’s Mom lived with us. I was so in love with my grandma and even shared a room with her when I was younger. My grandma passed away when I was 12 and it absolutely broke my heart. My mom knows how close we were and how I wished she could’ve been there to meet my amazing James, and be a part of our day. My Mom gave me one of my Grandma’s rings that she had resized, so that I could have a piece of her with me. It made my heart so happy and I’ll cherish the ring for the rest of my life!
Honestly, planning the wedding went so smoothly it blew my mind. Things fell into place so perfectly. The most important thing was making sure that everyone was going to have fun! We splurged on an amazing local band, The Lee Alcorn Band, to make sure that the party kept going after the ceremony. Another important piece was having my “Papa” marry us, he did such a great job, it made our other splurge… our wedding video so special to us.
We DIY’d almost everything!! My favorite handmade item was our wedding arch, that James built. It was so beautiful! We had so many other diy projects I can’t even begin to list them! I just know without the help of our amazing friends and families we never would’ve been able to get it all done! We used a local florist out of Sebring, Florida called Hobby Hill. She completely understood my vision of wanting very natural colors and the simplicity that I was hoping for. We had white hydrangeas on each table, along with babies breath (typical barn wedding lol) as well as little baby succulents I grew just for the wedding.
