Today’s bridal portrait session from Katie James Photography is doubly special! Not only is it a stunning bride in a breath-taking location, but there is a sweet story with it too! Read on from the bride, Taylor:
My parents were married 26 years ago in November and my mom wore a beautiful lace tea-length dress for their wedding. After I got engaged, I was at their house looking through old pictures for our rehearsal dinner slideshow and I happened to come across one of my parents on their big day. My mom remembered she still had her dress hanging up somewhere in the house and we found it that night. I put it on and knew I had to incorporate it into my wedding day somehow. I then had the idea of having it restyled and wearing it to our rehearsal/rehearsal dinner. I worked closely with Hollow to Hem for several months creating the perfect rehearsal dress while keeping the integrity of it being my mom’s wedding dress. I had it work out to where it was finished in time for my bridal portraits.
I wanted to get some photos of her “first look” at the dress and thought surprising her at the portraits would be perfect! And it was. After all the photos were done, I told my mom to wait outside because I had a surprise for her. She had no clue! My maid of honor helped me change into her dress and my photographers set my mom up (and she still had no idea why they were taking pictures of her) and then showed her the new dress! I was shocked by her tearful reaction so much that it made me cry. I hope to pass that dress down to my own daughter someday. It was so special to both of us and I’m so glad she allowed me the chance to spruce up her dress for my big day!
