Starting off this week with a sweet and southern wedding from Glint Events captured by Agha Photo. The ceremony location is so dreamy! The cross at the altar was hand carved by the groom’s uncle. I love the first look with dad and the couple’s adorable pup that joined in for most of the wedding. And of course, in southern tradition, the couple buried some bourbon that was dug up after the ceremony!
Andy and I both wanted to get married outside. Also, we wanted our ceremony and reception to be in the same place to minimize logistics. In Richmond, that leaves you with only a few options, however Tuckahoe could not have been more perfect for what we were looking for. We had been to a few parties out there before.
The ceremony site under the crepe myrtle trees is absolutely gorgeous. In fact, the entire grounds are beautiful between the gardens where your guests can have cocktails to the old historic plantation house where Thomas Jefferson lived as a boy.
Andy’s brother Clement surprised us by reading a letter I had written to Andy soon after we had started dating, detailing things I loved about him. He stepped up to read it during our ceremony, after we thought the readings were over. It was a very emotional moment, and looking back one of the best of our wedding day. It made our ceremony unique, and helped our guests to understand the special love and bond we have.
We chose a sea foam green and peony pink as our primary colors, with gold accents. Our wedding was over Labor Day weekend, so we went with a summer color scheme. We added the gold accents because even though our wedding was outside, we wanted an element of elegance.
The most important thing to us was that we wanted our guests to have a great time. That translated in terms of our priorities — we wanted a killer band to get people dancing and an open bar (of course).
