If bright colors make your heart sing, you are in for a treat with this summer Charleston destination wedding captured by Danielle Harris Photography! These brides love color and the vibrancy of their love really shined through in their whimsical and romantic wedding day. We are obsessed with the watercolor painted wedding cake. And hello fun florals! All the colors and textures are so amazing!
We picked Charleston because it is one of our favorite places to visit. The charm of the city along with the beaches, shopping and historic sites you just cant beat. There is something magical about Charleston. We have always wanted to move there it is a goal in the future. So we were vacationing there for my brother and sister in laws wedding and we decided to go to Magnolia for a tour and when we got there I told Ashley this is it. This is the place we are getting married. I was totally and completely in love with it. All of it. The Spanish Moss trees were everything I wanted and dreamed of in my head it was perfectly magical.
OHHHH the colors!!! Here is what I knew. I wanted DIFFERENT. I absolutely did NOT want people to say “did you see her colors those are THE wedding colors this year EVERYONES using them.” Our personalities are very big and bold and there was no way my colors or my flowers or makeup for that matter were going to be anything but that! The usual pale pinks, blues, whites, Ivy, champagnes and all of the other pretty but boring mess that is a thing right now just isn’t MY thing. It isn’t OUR thing. Summer makes us HAPPY sunshine puts us in a fantastic mood and gives us energy and excitement . That’s the vibe we wanted in our wedding happy excited and great energy!! Those colors to me are bright pink, yellow, orange, purple, blue and whatever else you want to throw in there.
When I went to pick out my dress I was not entirely sure of what I wanted but I knew what I was looking for. I wanted class and sophistication but I wanted SEXY. I wanted Ashley to see me and pass out because of how HOTT I would be in my dress. This is the first dress I saw the ONLY dress I personally pulled off the rack the first dress I tried on and even though I tried on 7 dresses I knew from the moment I saw it this was MY dress. It was made for me. Everything about it screamed Stephanie. Ashley went with a custom hand made suit by Jin Lee here in Indianapolis. She wanted a clean cut look but she wanted multidimensional. Jin did an awesome job with layering different textures on her suit. Ashley is all about the shoes though for any outfit. As you can see she found the perfect ones. Bright Blue and gold. They were the talk of the night.
My favorite part of the day was seeing Ashley for the first time. I had so much fun getting ready and I tell you it is just such a fun experience the entire day that you for once live in and enjoy the actual moment. When I was walking to Ashley her back was towards me and I was so nervous! I remember telling Danielle I was not sure why I was so nervous because I see Ashley every single day but the butterflies were massive! Just in that moment leading up to when she turned around there was so much excitement and love then when I saw her and she me it was truly that point in time you wait for your entire life. You dream about that moment from the time you are 4 or 5 years old and for it to become a reality there is no other experience like it.
BOLD. Colorful. BRIGHT. A personality statement for sure. Ya’ll I wanted big and different I did not want anything plain, bland or understated. There were even green onions in our flowers!!! WHAT??! Right??? They were perfect. The first thing I told Tara our planner was that I wanted the most big colors she could think of and I wanted all of the colors. I wanted mid summer’s night dream garden colors and flowers, so much color and mystery full of wonder and amazement and I tell you what Noah delivered!
So my college degree is in baking and pastry and my most favorite thing to make is wedding cakes so this cake was THE cake for me. Its so funny because everyone thought I would just know what kind of cake I wanted but I had no clue. It was almost harder because I know all of the things you can do to a cake and the choices along with the pressure of the most perfect wedding cake for the wedding cake pastry chef were just overwhelming. After many many pinned cake boards I finally picked out my design. A very bright and colorful painted technique cake. It was perfect as far as design goes. Very rare in today’s wedding cake society my Bakery even told me how excited they were to be able to work on my cake! As far as the flavors go the perfect chocolate ganache cake, the oh so southern lemon and cream cheese frosting cake and for the pastry chef in me (that Ashley actually picked out) a banana key lime and raspberry cake! I am so happy with it that I have a picture of the cake framed in my office at work on my wall!
