Starting off the week with this fall barn wedding captured by Jessica Connery with too many details you will fall for. This couple really did an amazing job of combining their tastes (his love for golf, her obsession with gold) into a fun event their guests would love. The old school cootie catcher is amazing, but my favorite detail is the cute custom plaid button downs for the bride and her maids (raise your hands who would love that gift!)
When we started to talk about wedding plans, after getting engaged in April, 2013, we knew we wanted something different from the weddings that we have been to, we wanted people to have fun and remember our wedding. We started thinking of a venue and knew we wanted a barn venue. We both love everything about the fall and October is our favorite month, we knew the fall foliage in New England is perfect around mid October. After searching for a barn venue, I found The Ranch golf club in Southwick, Ma. We made an appointment and it was perfect, we signed that day for October 12, 2014.
When it came down to the color scheme, the groomsmen and bridesmaids attire, we went back to the barn venue and wanted to go with more softer colors. The guys wore dark tan suits with succulent boutineers and teal and tan ties and the girls wore teal dresses, nude flats and a twisted mixed pearl necklace. I’m a very simple person, so when I got my dress I knew it would be perfect for me and he would love it. My headpiece was one of my favorite pieces, my soon to be mother in law made that for me, she also sewed the little gold skull brooch into my sash (my love for Halloween).
The ceremony was at the Rose Garden, in Stanley Park. We chose this because we had a friend get married here and it was beautiful and simple. We knew from the start that we wanted one of his very good friends to marry us, and he accepted without hesitation. It was very personal and it was funny but heartfelt.
We both love rustic and wood elements, he loves golf and football and I love monograms, marquee letters and all things gold, so I knew we had to incorporate it all. We both are very crafty and we did a lot of DIY for the day. I knew I needed and wanted to have the groom included in everything, and he was. We spent countless days spray painting, drilling, cutting wooden letters for the LOVE marquee sign, staining wooden crates, painting corn hole boards and everything else we were anticipating using the day of.
One of my favorite parts of the day, waking up and knowing in a few hours I would be marrying the love of my life, and my best friend for the last 6 years. We chose not to do a first look, when I walked down the aisle and saw him looking at me, I will never forget that moment in my entire life. We had so much fun at the reception, we danced all night. Our favorite things about the reception were the cupcakes and s’more bar for dessert, photobooth and the cigar bar outside. It was a perfect night.
