Today’s beautiful wedding from Christina Forbes is proof that backyard weddings can be utterly dreamy. Filled to the brim with handmade details and joyful smiles, this one is not to be missed! The florals are breath-taking (hello gorgeous hanging vase entry way!) And the little tea cup planters at the place setting are darling.
Jerry and I had the most perfect, intimate backyard wedding! I never knew our garage could look so beautiful :-) We chose to keep our guest list to only our closest family and a handful of friends, and with less than 50 people there we were able to do so much more than we could have if we were seating 100 or more people.
We are very thrifty, and very hands-on with wanting to build and create. So we knew from the get-go that we wanted to craft our wedding day from the ground up! Our style leans more toward natural and organic and woodsy. With an early April wedding I knew there wouldn’t be much in bloom so we chose to incorporate lots of greenery in our tables. Our designer was absolutely amazing and was able to create SO much more in regards to our florals than I had anticipated! My favorite color is mint green so I incorporated mint and peachy tones wherever I could but we certainly weren’t picky about sticking with a ‘theme’ of color… We just wanted it beautiful.
Jerry and I are very sentimental. So we wanted to make sure that everything we curated for our wedding was a reflection of us and our relationship together. For example, we knew since the moment we were engaged that we wanted to say our vows in the field where we met! We couldn’t have our whole wedding and reception there but because we had a small enough wedding party, we were able to drive down to that beautiful wooded field to have our simple ceremony and then we headed back home for our reception celebration.
I think the most fabulous hand-made element of our wedding day was our palette tables. We didn’t make them ourselves but they were handmade and gifted to us by some of our best friends at our church. What a blessing! Other than our gorgeous tables, Jerry and I scoured thrift stores for a little over a year to prepare for our wedding day! We collected small neck vases and candlestick holders and lamps to spray paint. We collected thrift store lace sheers and curtains to cut into strips to make a backdrop in our garage.
I have to say that I think my absolute favorite detail of our wedding day was our china and silverware. We collected mismatched floral china and silverware for almost a year and a half to gather enough for our wedding guests! We could have gone the quick route and ordered them in sets from Etsy but we took the long route and painstakingly picked each plate individually and visited countless thrift stores and antique stores everywhere we traveled over the last year. It’s fun looking through them and remembering where we got each piece!
Our meal was potluck style! Everyone who came to our wedding brought a dish to share. We picked up fried chicken cooked by our small hometown BBQ restaurant and everyone else provided the sides. It was delicious! And my parents play bluegrass music so they and a few of their musician friends brought out the fiddle’s and played good ole’ mountain music for the evening.
Our number one favorite part of our wedding day was being able to say our vows in the very spot that we first met. And having only a handful of our closest family and friends there to celebrate with us meant that we could enjoy each of them that were there and not be rushed through greeting hundreds of people! Our absolute favorite elements of our day were my (stunning!) Grace Loves Lace wedding dress that I had literally picked out since Jerry and I first met (true story!), our made-with-love pallet tables from our friends at church, our beautiful collection of floral china, the fairytale florals that our floral designer created for us, and fiddling’ the night away with my family! I couldn’t have dreamed it more perfectly.
