A lot of brides are planning DIY weddings, but I love today’s ranch wedding from Bumby Photography because it is DIT, do-it-together. It really embodies the whole idea of family and friends and the couple coming together to help create a beautiful day.
I won’t sit here and say that I have “dreamt of my wedding day since I was a little girl”, because that would be a lie. It wasn’t until I fell in love with Bret that I was able to truly envision a wedding of my own. The more time we spent together on his dad’s farm (where Bret grew up as a kid) the more and more we knew this was where we HAD to have the wedding. We were excited that this gave us the opportunity to do whatever we so wished.
It was easy to become inspired by the rustic look and feel from the property and barn itself. The property is covered with live oak trees, some of which are over 100 years old, and we knew they would be the perfect back drop for our pictures together. Bret’s dad has always referred to his property as “Heaven on Earth” and once I was given the opportunity to tour the property it really validated that statement. It was also very important to us that we incorporated the Lake House on the wedding day, this is where Bret and I first fell in love and have spent many weekend get aways together.
Most of the lace inspirations came from my Grandma who wasn’t able to be a part of our day but absolutely loved everything lace and left behind a large collection (this was where my desire for a lace dress came in, wrapping for my bouquet, mason jar details, the bridesmaids dresses, mothers dresses, and lace runners). The idea for the apple pie moon shine was inspired by a family friend who was able to provide it, and we felt as thought it fit our theme instead of a champagne toast.
With all the work that we put into planning and decorating the wedding ourselves, many of our friends and family considered it a DIY wedding. However, we considered it a DIT wedding (Do it Together) because every project we did, we did together, which made it even more special come the day of.
