I’m so excited to share this lovely handmade wedding from Clewell Photography today! I’m in love with their ceremony look (you would never believe it was last minute due to rain!) And the bike details throughout the wedding are too darling. How amazing is the bike wheel chandelier? Such a great idea!
I’d say the things that were most important to us probably weren’t all that unique: we wanted to create ambiance that was a little casual, relaxed, a little rustic and rural (dare I say bucolic?), and most of all, fun. Our location helped – it’s the private residence of a family very close to Jen’s. The owners are Jen’s godparents, and their daughter has been Jen’s best friend since birth. So we had this big, beautiful house, a beautiful barn, and gorgeous property. Jen spent a lot of time on the interwebs taking note what she liked, all of which was passed along to our florist and wedding planners. I would say the vision was Jen’s, but we absolutely, positively, without doubt, could not have executed it without Bash Collective and our florist, Jennifer Soucheray.
When it comes to the best part of the day, “best” just doesn’t say it. I love words, but they’re inadequate for what happened. Plan A had the ceremony outside. Forecasts leading up to it showed rain in the morning, but clearing in plenty of time for the ceremony. We didn’t even rehearse Plan B.
You know what happened next.
So, when the unimaginable happened and it began pouring, our day-of planner Jessica did what amazing planners do – she pulled it together, executed Plan B, and moved the ceremony to the barn. As we congregated in the tent, going over the processional, the rain let up a little. The wedding party walked the 40 yards to the barn under umbrellas. We processed and took our place inside, at the front of the barn. As Jen and her dad stepped from outside into the doorway, the clouds parted, brilliantly illuminating them from behind, and the sunlight followed her down the aisle. It was breathtaking. The ceremony was intimate, funny, touching, and wholly ours thanks to our officiant, Phyllis, another longtime family friend.
After that, the night exceeded our expectations. We had our cocktail hour outside the barn, and while we made the rounds, our friends played lawn games. We moved the party to the tent for dinner, drinks, and dancing, where our DJ Mike did a fantastic job. Due to noise constraints, we were going to finish the night back in the barn, so we processed back through a tunnel of sparklers to the barn, where we sang karaoke, danced until our feet hurt, and tried not to think about the cab that was picking us up to go to the airport in an hour!
By the time we’d said our goodbyes and repacked for the honeymoon, we had time to lay on the couch for 20 minutes before the call from the cab company woke us up. It was a beautiful day and night. We cannot adequately thank everybody who helped make the day amazing.
