A DIY Southern Backyard Wedding

Who doesn’t love a backyard wedding? Today’s southern backyard wedding is full of so many sweet DIY details. I love the bride’s one shoulder gown and the natural bouquets! And how cute are their screen printed tees? What is your favorite detail?

The gorgeous bride Kari gives us the details:

After we got engaged, I had so many ideas swirling around about how I wanted our wedding to be. From the start we knew we wanted a small intimate wedding with only the ones that were close to both of us to be there. I had been searching Pinterest for ideas and inspirations. Our wedding was a total DIY wedding, and I was hands on with every aspect of it.

After coming up with the general “theme” that I wanted for the wedding, which was a southern rustic vibe, I had all kinds of ideas swirling around in my head. We got married at my parent’s house, which we moved there when I was in 8th grade, and for as long as I can remember, I wanted to get married there. They live on a huge property with a pond, pool, and grape vines. It really was the perfect setting. We first envisioned the wedding to be in the front yard, until my mom and dad came up with the idea of having it in the backyard facing the pond, under the arbor that held a swing. We hung tissue paper poms from the arbor and it gave the perfect backdrop for us to become husband and wife.

One of my favorite memories of the day was peeking out of the room that I was getting ready in that overlooked where the ceremony would take place. I was spying on all the guests arriving and after everyone had been seated, I saw Charlie pull his vows out of his pocket, and was nervously pacing back and forth reading them. It was the cutest thing! I was so nervous right before walking down the aisle as well, until I saw Charlie, and that all went away.

I’m a graphic designer, so it was pretty important to me that I use my skills for the invitations, programs and different signage around the wedding and reception. We also gave away t-shirts as wedding favors that had a big oak tree on them, one like we planted during the wedding, with our wedding date on them. Everything really looked amazing, and I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect reception. I had this vision in my head, and didn’t think it would look near as good as I had imagined, but it totally surpassed everything I thought was possible.

It was such a perfect and sweet day.  It was so nice to have everyone that we loved and care about there to help us celebrate, including lots of friend and family that came from out of town. I can honestly say that was the best day of my life.  I wouldn’t change a thing about the entire day, and wish I could do it all over again. It seems like a beautiful dream thinking back on it.
