Real Wedding | An Intimate Backyard Wedding

This week’s wedding is a small, intimate California wedding that is definitely not short on style! This couple infused every bit of their personalities into their little backyard wedding, creating a one of a kind event with tons of sweet details. I absolutely love their unique guest book idea and the donut tower from their favorite shop in lieu of cake! And of course the impromptu trash the dress in the pool by the bride is amazing!

The gorgeous bride Megan shares all the details:

A friend of ours was kind enough to open their beautiful backyard to host our wedding – Ethan and I have been fortunate to have a close niche of family and friends who have been with us from the very beginning, so it was important to us to have a small, intimate affair with the people that mattered most. One of the these close friends was Randi (our photographer) — as soon as Ethan asked me to marry him I knew that Randi HAD to be the one that captured our special day! That’s how I got to know the rest of the team that put together our wedding. Randi works with a number of wedding planners including Kate Wright from Blue Door Creative. Kate brought in her expertise and attention to detail and design, as well as her amazing florist Mike from Culver City Flower Shop and Alta Hughes who made me absolutely beautiful on my wedding day.

The main thing that Ethan and I wanted at our wedding was to have fun! Including our guests – we are two very happy people who value the little things in life and wanted everything to radiate that, even down to the tiniest details. We wanted something that people had never seen before – Something traditional but with a mix, hence a formal dining table arrangement but donuts as our cake. I personally loved what Mike created as my bridal bouquet – it was so different and so ME at the same time! Also me jumping in our friends pool, I would say, was the icing on the cake and day!

As for DIY projects – Ethan and I wanted a different way to remember our guests and the time they had at our wedding. We passed around a polaroid camera and asked our guests to snap personal shots of the day. We then wrapped the photographs around a tree and created our own unique guest book. We then encouraged our guests throughout the day and night to write messages on our photographs – I plan to put them in a huge collage for remembrance.

All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better team or wedding day. Randi captured so many memories and did it with the upmost care and open heart, as she always does. Kate and her team at Blue Door Creative gave me and Ethan the peace of mind that we needed on such an important day – There is honestly nothing I would do different if asked to do it again.
