Margaret and John hosted the most charming English garden-style wedding day at the tranquil and romantic Inn at Willow Grove. From the majestic willow to the delicately restored colonial architecture, their day was a joyous occasion framed by old-growth trees and beautiful gardens. Their invitations and details reflected their garden-inspired palette and even the menu and hors d’oeuvres boasted freshly prepared farm-to-table cuisine. I wanted a small garden wedding with pops of color among a green backdrop. Simple and classic mixed with the outdoors and vibrance of the garden was the goal. I wanted guests to feel like they were in a secret garden for the ceremony, the space was lined with large boxwoods and trees. There was a long brick pathway leading to the ceremony space, which was one of my favorite parts about the venue.
I chose a simple white dress, with a v-neck and low back line. I wanted a dress that would that let my veil, which was the veil my mother wore on her wedding day, stand out.
We will always remember our ceremony and exchanging vows in a garden surrounded by our friends and family. Afterward, we hopped in a golf cart and rode to the top of the inn’s property line where we had buried a bottle of bourbon weeks earlier for good luck and good weather. We certainly had both that day.
We splurged on our flowers and photographer, both of whom are amazing. My mom is a big gardener and she grew up with a great big rose garden that my grandfather tended. When she and my dad hit their 21st wedding anniversary, he gave her 21 rose bushes. When I go home, my parents house is always filled with roses during the season, just like my grandparents house always was too. To this day, I smell roses and think of my mom and grandmother. Our florist really went above and beyond to make our flower arrangements special.
