Whimsical, romantic, and tons of fun, there is so much to love about this blue and gold California wedding from Jessie Leigh Photography! We are obsessed with the gold hoop centerpieces and the luxe drape detailing!
When I thought about our wedding I knew I wanted to look at our pictures in 30 years and it still be breathtaking. I wanted it to be classic, but also unique. I ended up choosing a “black tie look”, but using navy instead. I was going for a classic, shabby chic vibe with a little bit of boujee elements. I wanted rich colors such as navy, gold and ivory.
I chose a long sleeved ball gown because I wanted to feel like a princess on my wedding day and I also wanted a dress that isn’t a popular right now. My husband worse a three piece navy suit that matched the guys with brown belt and shows. The bridesmaids wore boho styled navy chiffon dresses that were all the same color and fabric, but different styles. I wanted the girls to be in evening type dresses vs. bridesmaid dresses.
My favorite parts of the day were getting ready with my girlfriends and walking down the aisle. We did not do a first look so the first time I saw my groom was in my dads arm walking down. It was such a special moment.
The MOST important thing to us were that people had fun and ate well. We spent most of our budget on alcohol, food and dessert. We knew that is what made people happy and I didn’t want the “bad wedding food” stigma attached to our wedding. So we made sure to get a great caterer and amazing staff. We also got light up custom foam batons for dancing and EVERYONE loved it.
My mom made EVERY decoration for our wedding. From the seating chart, the chandelier that hung in the tree, hand painted rocks in the planters, all the hanging decor in the tree, the light up tree on the candy bar, the unity candle and everything else shown in our pictures. Every frame from our wedding was purchased from a thrift store and painted in different shades of gold by my mom. She is AMAZING. She is so talented and crafty.
Oh my wedding flowers. Wow! They were so beautiful. Probably my most favorite part of the wedding decor. They were ivory hydrangeas, roses, and greenery that was painted gold. Once again, I wanted something now one had and something whimsical.
Do whatever YOU want for your wedding. Don’t do a first look and write your own vows. Don’t be so trendy and keep your wedding classic. Work your butt off at the beginning of your engagement to get as much planned as possible so you can enjoy the time leading up to the wedding because it’s the most precious. Take some time for yourself on your wedding day and just keep in mind to soak up every moment and be in the moment. Also, meet in person with all of your vendors. We were in love with each one of them because we knew we would be spending the whole day with them and I wanted to know I could trust them and connect with them. Our wedding day was perfect and it was mostly because of them. They were so amazing.
