This vintage styled airplane engagement session from Pattengale Photography is too cute for words! The shoot is a nod to Colt’s proposal, which he did mid-air with an adorable emergency check list. Read the cute story below!
Around Thanksgiving last year, Colt had asked me to join him for a “fly-in holiday dance” at a hangar he connections to. We both dressed up in our holiday attire and bundled up for the early December cold. I met Colt at the local airport, where he rented a Cessna, after he had already completed the pre-flight. Colt was excited to share that he would be filming our flight with some go-pro’s, because he wanted to video tape my first landing (which I was nervous about.) He had secured one go-pro to the wing outside the cabin, and another was mounted on the dash. We took off and Colt gave me control to let me have some experience flying. He took back the control and asked me to grab something from the backseat. As I turned around to find what he wanted, we experienced an engine spurt, which alarmed me. Colt was also seemingly alarmed, which was very concerning, as he is a very experienced pilot. He asked me to begin the emergency checklist to help him get back to the airport safely. As I got through the list, he asked me to read the emergency flight ring engagement procedure, which turned into his proposal. My now husband is quite clever and good at playing pranks. He had simulated an engine issue to startle me into reading the “emergency procedures,” which were actually step by step instructions for his proposal. I of course accepted with delight, realizing that, first of all, I was going to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, that we were not in an emergency situation, that the proposal had been caught on camera, and that he had all of our family filming us from the ground.
