If you describe your wedding day vibe as that of an episode of The Great British Bake Off, you know it is going to be amazing! This Virginia estate wedding from Verlee Bishop Weddings is utterly charming and sweet. We are loving the cute bird table numbers!
We basically wanted our wedding to emulate an episode of The Great British Bake Off: happy, charmingly colorful, and with sheep. We both like cool colors, so blue and purple were our top choices. We both also love animals, so once Julianne found a blog post of another couple who had a petting zoo at their wedding, we knew we needed the same thing. Seven Springs was a beautifully historical, animal-laden godsend.
Julianne wanted a light blue dress, but couldn’t find one she liked. (Get with the program, dress designers!) Grey was the next best choice. Julianne’s sister made the sash for Julianne’s dress. Jay wore a purple shirt, purple socks, and purple shoelaces because the best color in the world is purple.
We originally asked one of our friends from grad school to officiate the wedding, but when he wasn’t able to get the weekend off work, we then asked another grad school friend, whom we had already asked to be a bridesmaid. She did an incredible job—she was funny and heartfelt and perfect! We had really wanted to have someone whom we both knew well as our celebrant, and we’re glad we stuck to that. It was so nice to have a friendly face up there with us instead of someone we’d just met shortly prior.
Julianne designed the invitations, the seating chart, and our wedding website. Our best man Cory designed the individual table number signs. Julianne doesn’t drink alcohol, but she wanted to have a fun signature drink just like everyone else has at their wedding, too, so we had an Italian soda bar! Julianne’s signature drink is a lavender and vanilla Italian soda. It comes highly recommended.
We didn’t have cake; we had ice cream! Our flavors were raspberry sorbet, cherry vanilla, birthday cake, and red velvet Oreo. The ice cream came from a local place that Julianne grew up visiting after dance class every week. It was so good. We loved our music! We had music from Bake Off during the cocktail hour, and the reception was full of our favorite indie hipster jams!
