Glamour gets a vintage twist with this Chicago wedding from Anticipation Events captured by Erika Mattingly Photography. An old theater stage sets the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous ceremony. The handmade chuppah covered in lush florals was a stand out statement piece you can’t help but love!
Although we live in LA currently, we decided to get married in Chicago where I am from and where most of my family still lives. We wanted to have an authentic experience and we wanted to honor our families and their rich histories. We loved Thalia Hall from the moment that we toured and knew it was the place for us. My family is Czech, and multiple generations of Chicagoans. Thalia Hall is actually originally a Bohemian reception hall, Sean and I loved the idea of the venue being a place that potentially our families had celebrated their weddings in the 1800s.
I wore a 20s/30s vintage-looking style simple silk dress, with a similar thought in mind — I wanted to look classic, elegant and authentic.
Mary’s cousin also made the chuppah for them to be married under using found wood up at the family’s Michigan farm house.
Mary’s favorite memory is a moment after the ceremony and dinner, once dancing had begun, she and Sean were able to steal a couple of minutes up on the balcony overlooking the venue, all their friends and family and the entire night before them. She felt so grateful in that moment to have found her amazing partner Sean and grateful for their community supporting them in this beautiful celebration!
We wanted a big celebration and dance party. We got married in a beautiful theater with a big stage, so we splurged for a big 12 or 13 piece wedding band. It was worth it! Everyone danced their socks off and Sean ended up being probably the first groom ever to go stage diving at his own wedding! We decided to skip out on cake, but go big for late night treats like churros and Chicago style hot dogs.
