Today’s Portland wedding from Peachy Keen Coordination has some amazing DIY details, but the stand out element is the amazing ceremony location! The St Johns Bridge made for one epic venue for this couple’s I Dos! Scroll to see the amazing images captured by Jason Wasinger Photography.
Our wedding vision was really just about making this day feel like us. We have family all around the west coast, but Portland has become our home and we tried our best to highlight Oregon and make local choices whenever possible. We picked Cathedral Park for our ceremony location because we felt it truly highlighted what makes Portland so unique. A gorgeous park full of trees along the river, but right in the middle of an urban area and one of Portland’s most iconic bridges. The Stein-Boozier Barn was unique and historic, while also well suited to the size and style of our event.
We had a small bridal party and it was important to me that everyone felt comfortable and beautiful in whatever they were wearing. I wanted my sister and matron of honor, Allison, to have a unique dress so she selected a beautiful floral maxi dress from Yumi Kim. My only instruction to my other three bridesmaids was to pick a long dress in a solid color (so that Allison would stand out) that was in the same color scheme as Allison’s. I sent out a bunch of examples, but let them search on their own. They all did a fantastic job and coordinated with each other so that they each had a unique color. The jewel tones that they ended up with were perfect and I don’t think I could have picked better options if I had tried.
We absolutely loved having our dog, Charlie, be a part of our day. She wore a flower crown made for her by Lucky Farms and her own classy black and white ‘suit’. We weren’t sure how she was going to do with all of the people and attention as she is sometimes an anxious pup, but she executed her Dog of Honor duties like a professional. She posed for every picture, lapped up all of the pets and attention, and looked like a superstar the entire time. We loved having our little family all together for this day.
One of our first and favorite choices was selecting White Pepper as our caterer. We are food lovers and their delicious choices and emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients was perfect. I had a great time searching through countless antique stores and other shops to find milk bottles, mason jars, mismatched china, and other decor that were truly vintage and special. I enlisted the help of my dad, a woodworker, with many of the decor elements including all of the signage, the plant ladders, the seating assignment window, champagne trays, etc.
My favorite DIY element was the large wooden window frame that my dad built for our seating assignments on our entry table. I collected and pressed different flowers which were placed between two pieces of glass in each pane. Each pane was numbered and names were added for that table. For table numbers, I placed more pressed flowers inside floating frames (the same flowers that were used for the corresponding table in the large wooden window pane) and painted the table number on them.
