Luca and I wanted our wedding to be simple and essential, full of care and love: Laura has always talked about a “beautiful and good day” and, I think, there are no better words to describe what that day was. Our marriage was supposed to be “an aromatic garden hidden in a wood” and so it was. Both the church in which we celebrated the rite and the industrial location that hosted the reception expressed their beauty thanks to their essential and authentic architecture.
Like my mother and my grandmothers, I didn’t want to wear the veil. My dress was made of silk chiffon and embellished in some places by a delicate lace. I wanted it to be light, unstructured and easy to carry in order to be able to fully live that day: dance, rejoice and celebrate with our families and friends. I chose to wear only two jewels: a bracelet that my parents gave me many years ago and that has always been, in some way, a companion of magical moments; finally, a small necklace with a flower pendant: it was given to me by my grandparents a few days before the wedding, and was made with the blue stones of an old grandmother’s ring that became the petals of the flower.
During the ceremony we were stunned with emotion and many relatives and friends were moved to tears. The launch of the rice was wild and fun, and a second later we surrounded and hugged by so many dear ones, most of them beaming more than we had ever seen.
The settings were designed with the desire to bring out the “bare” and true nature of these places: they were simple, yet studied with extreme cared, in order to be able to dialogue with the architectures that hosted them. Our colors were green, white and a cold pink, typical of some berries. The florals were made with aromatic herbs, berries, small wild flowers, intertwined branches, trunks, moss and small bulbs. Glass cylinders containing white candles, lanterns and small glass bells with lighted lights were used to make the industrial space more intimate and cozy. Everything was completed with the use of a series of simple white curtains resting on the exposed beams of the location.
When we reached the location, all the details we had spent so much time thinking about were exactly as we had dreamed: perhaps even more colorful and more beautiful. And again we were swamped by everyone’s affection. Then the delight of the dinner, the passion of songs, the wildness of the dances… We’re not able to choose a favorite moment – but we like to think that the best moment was what came after. The following days and months in which we could look into each other’s eyes and say we now knew what a perfect day means.
