Lush greenery and cozy plaids make this mountain wedding captured by Jordan Weiland Photography a wintery dreamland! The tablescapes are rustic chic perfection, with plaid table runners, wood slab chargers, and overflowing greenery centerpieces. But let’s not forget every good winter wedding has to have a hot cocoa bar! It’s the perfect way to keep guests warm and happy!
We chose Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa because I always wanted a winter mountain wedding. DTR also has sentimental meaning to my family, when I was younger my parents took my sister and I on vacation there. It was much different when I was 5, and DTR always struck with me. When my father passed away I knew I wanted to get married at DTR to incorporate my father into my wedding without having an empty seat or a memorial about him. He was there in spirit and past memories.
I had 2 pieces of jewelry. A pair of sapphire earrings with diamond and sapphire jackets surrounding. Those were a gift my father gave my mother, they were my something blue. I also wore my great grandmother’s wedding band on my right hand. That was my something old. Also, the center stone if my engagement ring is the diamond my father gave my mother. After he passed away my mother stopped wearing all of her rings and only wore his wedding band. My dad told my mother when he proposed that she could never up grade her engagement ring. I felt the exact same way and I wanted to think of him everyday so my mother gave me her center stone so he would be with me every day. Another fun bit of information is my husband’s “fancy” wedding band, we each got 2 because we both work with our hands so we wanted rings we could beat up on and ones we keep nice, has 5 diamonds in it. Those 5 diamonds are from the very first ring he ever gave me on my 18th birthday. It was essentially a promise ring, so the initial “promise” was turned into forever.
It was most important for us to remember what the day was really about, us spending the rest of our lives together.
Gary and I wanted to keep it simple yet rustic, we really did not have colors, mostly had different varieties of plaid flannel. I wanted our flowers to be mostly greenery, with the white snow and the beautiful view I wanted that to be the main focus with a pop of greenery.

We “made” our own guestbook but using one of the posters the resort had and had our guests sign it with metallic pens. It’s hanging in one of our hallways in our house. My Oma, Grandmother on my mother’s side, made the box where guests were to put their cards, it was beautiful.
Everyone had a wonderful time and my guests still tell me our wedding was one of the best weddings they have been to. It meant a lot to us that our friends and family traveled to Colorado to share our special day.
