Today I am sharing the sweetest vintage travel theme wedding from BG Productions. These two brides are gorgeous and went full on with their theme from invitation to cake topper. My favorite detail is the vintage post card seating chart, with cute leather luggage tags that doubled as favors. Such a great idea!
We decided on a vintage travel theme because we both are really into travel and we liked the colors and feels of the vintage look. We hunted for old suitcase and other travel-related items as decoration, and incorporated the theme into our centerpieces, stationery, seating arrangements and favors. We went with dark blue and steel grey colors for the bridal party because they went well with the blues, greens, grays and browns we were coming up with for the travel-related items. We wanted an outdoor ceremony but indoor reception so went with a country club that offers an outdoor gazebo.
Jen’s father passed away so she had a small frame with his photo engraved and attached it to her bouquet. She also used yarn that her grandfather made for her grandmother as her old and borrowed to tie the frame onto the bouquet. Ashlee wore her grandmother’s ring as her old and borrowed item. We also made donations to foundations on behalf of our guests in the name of Jen’s father and Ashlee’s cousin, who passed away.
Seeing each other for the first look was incredible; after all the time and energy we put in to the wedding, it was very emotional and helped us focus on what was important.
We were eager for both the ceremony and reception to feel like “us.” Neither of us are very formal so we wanted the whole event to feel down to earth. We tried to incorporate as many handmade touches as we could, used personalized music, used humor in our vows to make sure the wedding didn’t have a stuffy feel to it.
We handmade flowers to be used for our bouquets and for our centerpieces out of maps. We found almost all of the materials for our centerpieces, glass bottles, old books, etc., at flea markets and thrift stores. We made our guestbook ourselves by painting and stenciling a canvas with our initials for people to sign. We had leather luggage tags engraved with a travel-related saying we liked and hand-oiled them to get them the right color; we then used them as part of the seating arrangements and then as favors.
Giving thank you gifts to our family and wedding party the night before was also a great moment. They all were there throughout the whole process, so it was fun getting to give back to them. Finally, just getting to see all of our family, friends and coworkers together in one room all celebrating together was amazing.
