I love the simple elegance and romance of this lakeside Michigan wedding captured by Dan Stewart Photography. The reception set up is perfect, with the long wood farm tables and fern garlands stretching down the center. So dreamy!
We knew we wanted to get married in Traverse City for its surreal views and natural beauty. Tony and I visited Traverse City often, and always felt a connection to the town. Our wedding had to highlight everything that we loved about it – the beautiful water, relaxed atmosphere, and amazing food and drinks. We worked to incorporate a lot of natural elements into our venue, which started with flowers. Jamie at A.R. Pontius was absolutely amazing. She brought my vision to life with floral garland on farm-style tables and a floral archway overlooking the water.
Keeping with the natural elements, I didn’t have a specific color for the wedding. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses in beige colors, and used a lot of brown and gold tones in our stationery and decor.
My very talented sister designed and created all of my stationery. From our invites, to the programs, the place cards, and the printed poster at our reception, she did it all (family is the best!).
Both Tony and I were really involved the structure and planning of our ceremony. The pastor was a long-time family friend of my parents, and wanted to make this intimate and personal for us. The songs sang were songs that were personal to us that we will forever remind us of our wedding day. We both wrote our own vows privately and heard them for the first time during the ceremony – mine told a story, and his brought my entire family and bridal party to tears!
My Dad has long collected wine corks, and created our place cards originally for my sister’s wedding years ago. My brother used the same place cards at his wedding, so we knew we would do the same! The night ended with lawn games, dancing, and s’mores at a bonfire.
Our photographer, Dan, had us sneak away for a “newlywed session” right around 9p to take pictures of us on the water. It was a great way to pause, send some quality time together and reconnect. Dan found an old dock, and jumped right in the water so get some of our favorite pictures from our wedding day.
