I am so excited to share this sweet Olympics themed wedding from Lindsay Hackney! The couple met at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, so decided to add some cute Olympics themed touches to their intimate farm wedding. I love their fun “Opening Ceremonies” sign and the bride even walked down the aisle to the Olympics theme song!
I met Tony at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. We were both working the Games so we had the time from Opening Ceremonies to Closing Ceremonies to get to know each other. By the time the Olympic flame went out our journey had just begun. The wedding was at a special place for both of us. My business partner’s family owns an organic farm in Washington, CT called Waldingfield Farm. I visited often and it is one of my favorite places on earth. When I brought Tony to the farm he instantly loved it too.
When I was looking for a dress I tried on my dress and instantly fell in love with it. I wanted soft and romantic for the farm. When I was purchasing it the sales woman told me the name of the dress was “Charlotte”. I teared up because it was my late grandmother’s name and I felt she had a hand in helping me finding my dress.
When my husband proposed he gave me a necklace with the Special Forces crest. This necklace is made for the wives of the men in service. I haven’t taken it off since the night he proposed. I also received a beautiful handkerchief that my friend’s mother got in Ireland years ago and she has been waiting to give it to me on my wedding day. It came in handy capturing my happy tears!
For family we created a Family Tree by hanging photos on a beautiful tree on the farm. We created the “Wedding Olympics” and had games on the lawn as a special nod to where we met.
On the morning of our outdoor wedding it was a torrential downpour so we were game planning moving everything in the barn. An hour before the start of the ceremony the clouds parted and the sun came out and it was a perfect night.
We wanted a personal wedding with family, friends, great food and dancing. We added little touches to give a nod to where we met with the Wedding Olympic Games and walking out to the Olympic theme song. The food was truly Farm to Table with Caseus Fromagerie Bistro planning the menu around what was in season at the Farm.
Having everyone we love in one room was special. We felt the joy and love and felt supported as we start our journey together. We loved the special touches to highlight where we met – walking out to the Olympic theme, The Wedding Olympic Games, we even walked in carrying an Olympic torch when they announced us for the first time as husband and wife.
