We are starting the week off with this sweet West Virginia wedding from Lauren Love Photography. Filled with tons of handmade and DIY details, there is so much to love with this one. The bride and her family made the bouquets, even growing their own succulents over the summer.
We chose the fall for our wedding, because we both love the natural beauty of the season. Also, who doesn’t love the crisp fall air?! With that in mind, we wanted a venue that allowed the season to be enjoyed, so we chose an outdoor venue on a blueberry farm in the West Virginia countryside. We tried to stick with natural and earthy choices in color, decorations, and style. The feel we wanted to achieve was casual elegance. We wanted the day to be classy and beautiful, coinciding with the comfort and relaxation of a fall day on the farm.
We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of the two of us – who we are and what we enjoy in life. Thankfully, Seth and I are a lot alike so picking elements that represented us both came easily. We also wanted our wedding to reflect our faith, which was a key element of what brought our lives together and what we believe will sustain our marriage through all that lies ahead of us. We wanted God to be praised and honored by our day of celebration, so we tried to keep that in mind during planning, to give us direction on priorities and to help keep us away from stress as well!
Seth used his woodsman skills to make the arbor we stood under during the ceremony. My uncle, mom, and I spent an evening during the summer cutting down a tree, which we used to make wooden centerpieces for the tables at the reception. We wanted our wedding to feel intimate, which for us included putting our own touch on the details.
We attempted to do as much for the wedding as we could ourselves. Our moms helped out a lot where that was concerned. My mom made all the floral arrangements, bouquets, and boutonnieres for the wedding, which included a summer of us gardening and growing dozens of succulents and other various plants in preparation for the big day. My mom also made the wedding cakes ranging from classic almond cakes with buttercream frosting to pumpkin rolls and red velvet cakes. Seth’s mom made a great german chocolate cake for the wedding as well.
Obviously, the best part of our day was getting to unite our love and lives in marriage, but such a precious occasion was made so much sweeter by getting to share the day with family and friends who have helped mold our lives and lead us to where we were that day. Our best man and maids of honor speeches were a highlight of the day too. We really appreciated being supported, encouraged, and humored by our loved ones during that time!
