I love the blue, green, and gold color combination of today’s DIY wedding from Bee Mine Photography. It still feels very light and spring-y, even though there is the rich navy hue. My favorite detail is the cute gold YUM balloons at the dessert station. And the personalized playlist CD favors are perfect for a music loving couple.
We wanted a classic wedding, but with elements of personal style and a DIY aspect. We love succulents, so we incorporated them into our scheme in a minimal way as a small centerpiece to hold the table numbers, a few in the bride’s bouquet, and as the cake topper. We used classic looking baby’s breath bouquets with dusty miller for bridesmaids, the ceremony aisle decor, and reception centerpieces. I love the way they look with navy and gold. The bridesmaids wore mismatched navy dresses, and the men wore matching dark grey suits.
We’ve lived in North Carolina for about 4 years, but we wanted to ensure we had it in Ohio. We love our roots, and wanted family and friends to gather where we both grew up. Additionally, we wanted to incorporate some meaningful things into the wedding, such as our love for music. We decided to create a mix CD for our wedding favor which features some of our favorite songs and staples from our early years as a couple up until now.
We chose to wed at my husband’s childhood church, Trinity Lutheran, which is connected to an Historic Ohio Home with beautiful grounds. The reception venue was a picturesque room on a small lake just minutes away from the church. The venue screamed “Ohio Wedding” for us (we live in North Carolina), and the building backs up to a corn field and faces west making for spectacular sunset lighting.
I designed our programs, our table numbers and name cards (I hand-cut all of the name cards!). We handmade our CD favors. My sister and I made the baby’s breath bouquets for the aisle decor as well as the centerpieces. My dad painted all of the centerpiece terra cotta pots gold and planted all of the succulents.
To be honest, it was perfect, even with a blip in our transportation of the bridal party (we rode with our two photographers)! A primary highlight — kissing my new husband, then running out of the church doors into the fantastically beautiful day with all of our family and friends greeting us with bubbles blowing overhead. I’d received a lot of advice on the importance of taking a moment by ourselves and reflecting on the people who are around you. We did this more than once! I loved seeing all of the laughter and smiling faces, old friends meeting new, and our families colliding. Then, after dinner at the golden hour, Erin (our photographer) asked Ian and I if we would want to venture across the lake to the empty field for more photos. It was beautiful, and we got to see everyone having fun from afar just as the sun was setting. It was a party, and we loved every second.
