Rustic details abound in today’s handmade Florida wedding from Stephanie A Smith. Seriously, this couple thought of everything and every detail was lovingly made by friends and family. I love the care they took to make sure their guests were comfortable and having fun with the blankets, bug spray, and lawn games to keep them occupied. Then of course the night ended with a surprise fireworks display!
Connor and I value our friends and family above all. They each played an important part in bringing us to this point and we wanted our wedding to remind them of that. We really wanted our guests to have that “at home” feeling. There was no better place to give that feeling than at my Dad’s house. We were so proud to show off his beautiful home especially since he built it. My Dad along with his house was the definition of “at home” for us.
Deciding to write our own vows was one of the best decisions we could have made. It was a beautiful start to a lifelong commitment. Connor even threw in a little joke about making sure that I never get too tired or too hungry. Everybody who knew me completely understood his “joke”.
Unfortunately for my friends and family, I managed to become crafty in my late 20’s. My new found craftiness inspired me to have a DIY, vintage, rustic, at home wedding. It all seemed so simple in my head but it actually ended up being a lot of work. I should have known with all the adjectives I used to describe our wedding. Thank goodness for our very helpful friends and family. We were also very fortunate that my Dad liked to collect “old junk” I mean treasures. Between my Dad’s collection and everybody’s hard work we were able to bring my vision to life. It was all worth it when we saw how much fun everybody was having!
I would like to say that our favorite moment was created by us but in true fashion my Father outdid us with a surprise fireworks display. We began the reception with all the traditional dances and then all of a sudden boom! The fireworks started and everybody was in awe of the amazing lights bursting into the sky. It was a beautiful moment that will never be forgotten.
