I’m so excited to share this summer barn wedding captured by Van Wyhe Photography. This couple just has the most fun personalities that shine through in their wedding. I just love the adorable barn invites the groom designed and all the fun handmade details!
We loved our venue, the Pickering Barn the first day we visited and we built our wedding theme around it. We wanted it to be intimate and fun, like a backyard barbecue. The theme was inspired by the barn venue. We DIY crafted the photo backdrop, guestbook (Jenga blocks), centerpieces, and gift box. Eric designed the Save The Dates, which were screen printed, and designed the wedding invitations.
Our ring bearer pillow is a family heirloom. It is nearly 60 years old and has been in every family wedding since Grandma Eling and Grandpa Al were married on January 4, 1953. Grooms’ side wore traditional Filipino barongs. Bride had a traditional red Qi Pao Taiwanese dress for the reception. Instead of gifts, our guests brought “red envelopes”, a Taiwanese tradition and also had a money dance, which is a Filipino tradition. Our wedding party members were escorted down the aisle by their significant others or a person of their choice. Groom’s “Best Mate” was his younger sister.
There was some rain in the morning that made the ground too soft to put chairs out for the ceremony so our guests had to stand. Also we weren’t able to have the speakers moved to the gazebo. But it ended up being the best thing ever! The ceremony was wonderfully simple and intimate because someone had portable speakers in their car for the music, and our guests were able to get great photos and move around for better viewing.
We had build your own mini-sliders (beef patties, pulled pork, and veggie patties) with a gourmet potato chip bar, summer salads and watermelon spears. For our cake we had salted caramel cupcakes with little gold pearls by Spirit Cupcakes. Our cake topper was Eric’s original creation built with Lego, which included our dog, Curry.
It was way less stressful than we had prepared for, all thanks to our great wedding coordinator, Tamara and our wonderful on-site vendors including Gabe, Jaci and Chris. We got really lucky with our team because everyone was very relaxed, organized and professional. We got to enjoy every moment of our special day to the fullest.
