If you are looking for a bit of rustic charm for your big day, you will love this gray and orange spring wedding captured by Jessica Ryan Photography. The whole look is very elegant, but with just enough rustic and southern charm to be comfortable and relaxed. The vintage hutch cupcake display is a definite favorite of mine!
We wanted a very rustic feeling wedding. With myself being from a country town not too far away in Suffolk, and Jimi being local from Virginia beach, we wanted to combine the two in our wedding. That is how we came upon using Holly Ridge Manor. It was the perfect backdrop for our country rustic wedding, while still being not too far from friends and family in Virginia Beach. We chose orange and gray as our colors. They seem to compliment each other and orange is Jimi’s favorite color. The casual feel of our wedding played well with the burlap and lace touches that we decided to use for table runners, linens while also going nicely with the mason jars and wood accents.
I had the lace from my mom’s wedding dress wrapped around my flowers along with the burlap. I also had her lace made into a garter for me, with a blue ribbon woven in. For my something borrowed, I used my mom’s ring on my right hand.
It was important to us that we keep the wedding true to ourselves and remember why we were planning all this. It is easy to get swept up in the planning process and sometimes you just have to take a step back and remember what got you to that point. Our love for each other is what we wanted people to remember when leaving our wedding. I feel that we kept the wedding very laid back and casual, and reflecting our personalities which was the most important thing.
I loved seeing Jimi for the first time when we walked down the aisle. Jimi felt strongly that we should wait until then to see each other so we didn’t do a first look. We also wrote our own vows which he preferred and it was such a special moment between the two of us.
I tried to DIY as much as I could and had time for! I made the coasters that were the wedding favors for everyone. They had a stamp I got that said “Best Day Ever!” and our wedding date and names. It was stamped onto a wood disc cut from a tree trunk and then shellacked so it would not bleed when used as a coaster. I also bought all the windows at a vintage store and had Nikki Hofmeister from House of Flourish write on them for the welcome sign, bar and seating chart. I used a vintage suitcase and glued fabric on the inside for a card case.
I also had a friend Kyle Jett make our wedding “guest book” which was a pallet creating he did in the shape of VA, with a heart on Virginia Beach and our wedding date. That was what everyone signed and is now hanging up in our house.
Our favorite parts were seeing all our friends and family in one place celebrating and having the best time. There’s nothing better than looking around an entire room of the ones you love that are there to help you share in your special day.
