Today I’m sharing a sweet vintage pink wedding with great DIY and budget details. The cupcake centerpieces are a great way to save some money, and how adorable are the ornament favors? They were hand-painted by the groom’s grandmother! I am also in love with the bride’s big bowed dress! So fun!
The lovely bride Katie shares:
I knew exactly where I wanted to get married – the University of Tampa. Many people asked me if that’s where I went to school, and the answer is no, I am a proud Florida Gator. But long before I was even thinking about college I was going to UT. For years I visited campus for swim practice and crew practice and it is less than a few minutes from my home. Many people want the old world charm of a historical site for their wedding, I was lucky enough to get that with a location that meant something to me.
Something that was really important to us was including our bridal party’s dates at our head table. Your bridal party has devoted the past 24 hours to you and probably hasn’t even talked to their significant other, the least we could do was have one big table where we all could have dinner together.
I was on a tight budget so I had to think of some creative ideas to cut costs. One of the most expensive things at a wedding can be flowers so I was on a mission to try to reduce our floral costs. I already knew that I wanted cupcakes instead of a traditional cake so I came up with the idea to incorporate the cupcakes with the flowers as the centerpiece of each table. I scoured every HomeGoods in the state and with the help of my friends I acquired 16 Opulent Treasures cupcake stands. The florist and Gigi’s cupcakes worked together to create the most delicious centerpiece I’ve ever eaten. The roses were soft pink and ivory to go with the strawberry and wedding cake flavored cupcakes.
My favorite part of the day was the exit. I struggled for a long time deciding what to do; sparklers, bubbles, throwing lavender, etc. There were endless options but I wanted something unique. My husband is really into sports so I thought it would be nice to somehow incorporate that into our wedding. I came across those thunder sticks you get at hockey games to make lots of noise and I had them custom imprinted to say “Team Meyer.” Everyone loved that it was such a unique idea and so us.
