Today you are in for a treat with this beautiful Guatemala wedding at an old convent ruins captured by Daniel Lopez Perez Photography. The venue is out of this world breath-taking and made this couple’s intimate destination wedding magical! The night ended in fireworks over the open domes of the ruins, it just doesn’t get any more romantic!
We wanted our wedding to be a very intimate event with immediate family and close friends. I am Guatemalan so for me this meant 85 people in my list! We ended up having around 120 guests from Guatemala, New York and Europe. We always knew we wanted it to be in Guatemala and in a special place. When we saw the ruins we just knew that it was magical and it was exactly what we wanted.
I designed the invitation myself. James has an 8 year old from a previous relationship and it was very important that he was a central part of our wedding. He drew a picture of us and the invitations were designed around that. James has a wood flooring company so we incorporated a wood element to them as well. We really wanted every part of our wedding to tell something about ourselves, where we come from and our relationship. We didn’t want to be the cookie cutter wedding, we wanted it to feel more personal.
We had a Mayan Ceremony, Marimba playing during the cocktail hour, Guatemalan food. We wanted everyone that was there to enjoy themselves and share such a special moment with us!
The venue was so stunning that we only wanted to add small things to it, tons of candles and tall white flowers! Our style was cool, sophisticated and laid back. we wanted everyone that came, either from close or far away, to remember this day and get to see different parts of Guatemala during the wedding.
Thelma, our wedding planner, was amazing! She was actually a gift from God! James and I went to Guatemala to look at venues in April and in our 4 day trip, we chose a venue, caterer, and were pretty clear on what we wanted, being in the same page as him was super helpful as well! But when we met Thelma and told her what we wanted she just made it happen! She didn’t try to deviate out vision or convince us that other way was better, she just took what we wanted, ran with it and produced an amazing event!
I just loved being able to share that day with my family and friends. We had everyone that was important to us there and they were all there celebrating us, cheering us and wishing us well. That is what made it magical!
