Today I am sharing the sweetest vintage courthouse wedding captured by Jill Doty! The bride actually wore two dresses: her mother’s wedding dress for the ceremony and then a romantic Claire Pettibone gown for the rest of the wedding day. I love this idea of two dresses! You can honor your mother or grandmother by wearing their gown, but then still show your own style.
We had tons of friends and family coming into town and wanted a venue that was convenient for travelers, close to restaurants and bars and had a hotel that was “stumbling” distance away from the venue. The Historic Decatur Courthouse was exactly what we wanted. In addition, the venue could only hold around 150 people and we didn’t want to have more than 150. The venue really help inspire my mom and I on decor and color scheme.
Starting with the venue we thought grey/purple would be our colors, but after my bridesmaids found their dresses, which were more blush and champagne colors, we decided to keep the colors very natural with earth tones with greens, blush and cream tones. Honestly, the decor and flowers were really all done by my mom and Holland Daze.
For the ceremony I wore my mother’s wedding dress. My mom paid off this dress for a few years after she got it. It’s special because she married my dad in it and he is wonderful. They are amazing and are such fantastic role models to what love and kindness looks like. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this year so I think it’s pretty amazing to wear her dress (that I can’t believe I fit in and didn’t have to alter) as I start my new marriage with the love of my life.
My mom is incredibly talented, actually has a interior decorating business as a part-time gig. She has such a great eye and really lead all the creative choices when it came to working with Kim, our florist and Zest on table decor and layout. We purchased all of the table decor, finding deals at stores and finding cool silver pieces at the Goodwill and cleaning them up to use.
My favorite parts were getting to wear my mom’s dress, the “love table” with all the parents and grandparents on it, and the bridesmaid dresses. All were unique and wonderful. Stephen loved how the room transformed from the ceremony to the reception. He said it felt like an entirely different room.
