Pastel Museum Wedding

We are starting off the week with the dreamiest vintage styled museum wedding captured by Audrey Rose Photography. The soft blue and gray color combination is so elegant and chic. The bride collected some sweet vintage finds to help make her day personal and unique. The floral bridesmaid dresses are the perfect touch for spring. And how cute are all the cakes? I love that she hid Funfetti on the inside of one cake as a surprise for her husband!

Shawn and I selected the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art as our wedding venue almost as soon as we walked in. The bright atrium, lush indoor greenery and Dale Chihuly chandelier really inspired us. As for colors, I went with periwinkle blues, grays, and gold accents. My style could be narrowed to art deco classic.

It was so fun to get ready together. We listened to Motown classics, sang, drank (lots) of champagne, and played with my puppy, Garth. As for the bridal party gifts, I went out looking for one gift that would work for all and quickly realized that my girls are all so unique and special that I was not going to find a one size fits all gift. Instead they all received hand picked gifts that would suit their individual styles. We took twenty minutes to sit down and have each girl open their gift one at a time. I wanted to thank them personally and explain exactly why they were included in my most special day and why they would continue to be a part of my next chapter. It was beautiful.

Our ceremony was amazing. I had one of my bridesmaids officiate the ceremony. She did a special ceremony filled with laughter and a champagne toast! She also incorporated an heirloom ring box and placed the wedding rings inside and passed them through the audience for them to place a well wishes.

My mother passed away in November so I really wanted to find ways to include her presence without making the occasion melancholy. Before she passed, my mother gave me a beautiful Faberge egg necklace. I pinned that to my bouquet so that I could hold her close. And while this isn’t exactly heirloom, I selected a wedding band with sapphires, my mother’s birthstone. It was such a simple way for me to include her during my ceremony in a way that would breath life into a fresh, happy aspect of my life.

We wanted to keep things timeless but still incorporate our own style. I have seen so many weddings that are just filled with trendy items and we really wanted this to be our own. We tried to purchase only decorations that we would in turn use in our home. This worked out great! We found so many beautiful vintage vases, cake stands, frames, platters and other items that really made the day. Too many to detail!

My maid of honor loaned me about 50 brass candlesticks, all the frames which held the table numbers and signature drink signs, and many other treasures to decorate the large space. I really did not need to purchase many decorations at all. I managed to thrift and antique quite a bit and found some beautiful vintage cake stands. I wanted several small cakes so I could incorporate my new-to-me vintage cake stands. But I surprised my hubby with Funfetti cake! It was a hit. I didn’t know which cake was Funfetti but I cut into each to find out!

I really could not stop smiling the whole day. I turned to my MOH during dinner and told her “I can’t believe all of these people are here to celebrate with us!” It was so beautiful to see so many people from all over the US come together to celebrate our love. What a special feeling.
