You are going to love this romantic electic Seattle wedding from Elegant Affairs captured by Shane Macomber. The couple’s ‘wine and whisky’ theme is so creative and fun. With a burgundy and blush color palette and candles galore, it couldn’t be more romantic. The ceremony decor is absolutely dreamy, with an amazing wine barrel backdrop you will be sure to fall for!
We knew we wanted to celebrate in Seattle– where we met– and that we wanted to treat our guests to an epically fun night full of Northwest flare. The venue had a lot of cement, exposed beams, and metal- very Northwest and very masculine. We loved the industrial edge of the space, and balanced it out by using a ton of candles throughout the venue to add a definite romantic vibe. Our colors were medium gray, blush, burgundy, and gold- also adding to the romantic vibe.
I wore my great grandmother’s pearl necklace and bracelet. I grew up across the street from her house and we were incredibly close. She passed away shortly before I met Mike, and it breaks my heart that she didn’t get a chance to meet my husband. Wearing her beautiful jewelry made me feel like she was a part of our special day even if she couldn’t be there in person. Putting them on while getting ready was the first of several emotional moments on our wedding day.
The ceremony was something neither of us will ever forget. The ceremony space was breathtaking! We had a backdrop of wine barrels, draped with greenery and lit up with votive candles. Candles and cherry blossoms lined the aisle. We collaborated to write the entire ceremony so it perfectly reflected our unique love and commitment to one another. Our family dynamic can be interesting since both of our parents are divorced, but we were able to incorporate them into the ceremony to say “thank you” to our parents and really symbolize the joining of families in a celebration of love.
Everyone says planning a wedding is so stressful and that the groom has no interest in planning, but our experience was totally different! We had a great time making decisions together and creating our vision. We took our time and communicated about what we wanted and why. We really wanted to create an event that celebrated the magnitude of our love and commitment to each other, while also providing our guests with a big party!
Wine and whiskey played major roles in our décor– from old fashioned cocktails to wine barrels throughout the venue, from corks from wine bottles we had enjoyed as escort card holders to our color scheme of blush and burgundy. We did our best to pepper the event with personal touches reflecting our passions. We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as a couple and leave our guests thinking “that was SO Mike and Krista!”
With the help of our amazing wedding planner, Lori, we used hand watercolor escort cards and table numbers set in stands made out of wine corks from bottles we had drank during our engagement. Beautiful!
