Whimsical Bohemian Wedding

I have always said a bride’s best accessory is her smile and it hasn’t been truer than in today’s bohemian wedding from Kristen Curette. The joy and love is just flowing out of this couple, making it impossible not to fall head over heels with every image.

My inspiration was basically Free People. I am drawn to anything bohemian. I love the laid-back nature, the colors, and the happy vibes associated with the bohemian style. The gardens at Festival Hill were the perfect backdrop for Kristen to capture the adventurous spirits and completely boundless love that Victor and I share with each other and our bridal party. The chapel is a gorgeous and classic treasure, tucked away like a forgotten treasure in the little town, and as soon as Victor and I walked in, we knew it was the place for us.

If I had to choose just one moment of the day as my favorite, I would choose my dad walking me down the aisle. I have learned so much from him about love, compassion, forgiveness, and trying to live like Christ, that having him honor my relationship with my Victor to the point of symbolically giving me away, that was a truly beautiful moment, and says so much about my husband’s character as well.

We wanted the reception (and really the whole atmosphere of our wedding day) to be a place where people felt comfortable, important, and free to be themselves, so we had everyone contribute in their own special way, from giving speeches, to bringing food, to singing.

Let’s be honest, our entire wedding was a DIY project. My oldest sister has worked in the wedding industry for a long time, so she graciously volunteered to be my wedding planner, and took care of organizing everything. My family and I planned and put everything together, from the heavenly French Vanilla and Triple Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcakes that my amazing sister Rachel made, to the lights that hung from the ceiling in the dance hall, to the alterations on my wedding dress that my mom made in the two months prior to the wedding, to the music playlist that my friend Veejay put together for us, to the potluck style food buffet that Victor’s family provided… I could go on and on. We did everything ourselves, and I am so glad we did! I think it made it a lot more fun (and affordable) to have everyone involved.

We actually opted out of most of the things that would be considered traditional in weddings. We really wanted to be intentional about only doing things that meant something to us, so we skipped out on the bouquet toss, the first dance, the cutting of the cake, and many more. We didn’t want to feel pressured to do something that would make us uncomfortable, and really focused on just being with people and making it the most memorable, fun day we could.
