I’ve absolutely fallen for the stunning views in today’s Colorado mountain wedding from Green Blossom Photography. I can’t think of a prettier location to get married than a barn nestled in the lush green mountains. Of course I’m also loving the bride’s stunning lace gown and the cute tulle bridesmaids’ skirts!
When planning our wedding, the style was much more important to us than the colors or theme. We didn’t hold ourselves to a color scheme, nor a theme like ‘classic’ or ‘natural’. We chose things that evoked emotion in us, and as a result ended up with a garden-party/vintage/bohemian feel that, although very eclectic (and maybe a little inconsistent) really reflected our relationship. The only requirement we held in regards to color was to incorporate many different soft hues, to maintain the ‘sweet’ feel we were looking for.
We had to have some Italian Wedding Cookies, prepared with love from Dominic’s Aunt. It was a tradition we could not do without! She also gave Sarah a beautiful white and gold rosary, which she wore during the ceremony. The handkerchief I carried around my flowers was hand-made by Dominic’s great grandmother.
The mountains were an obvious choice for us. We wanted something that felt like a retreat to our guests, and that emphasized the ethereal parts of life and love. Therefore, we had to get away from the city buzz. Although hesitant at first, after seeing the barn, it was an easy choice for Dominic. We wanted to feel undistracted, surrounded by spiritual beauty, and far away from the busy parts of life. It was important to us that our guests, not only enjoy a pretty place, but feel at peace to reflect upon their own love and relationships. We will remember, more than anything, the stunning mountains and quiet sounds of nature in the background of our ceremony.
My favorite part of the day was the vows. It’s so cheesy, but all the little details and distractions really faded away, and we could focus on the real reason we were there! I definitely recommend writing your own, it’s amazing!
We handmade the cones which held the tossing flowers, as well as all of our save the dates, invitations and thank you notes (talk about saving money!) Most importantly, the stunning doorway which served as an entry to our ceremony was hand-made by Dominic’s father. We used these in both the engagement photos and the ceremony. It was sort of an extended metaphor for stepping into our new lives.
