It’s vintage glam at the beach with today’s New England art deco wedding from Robyn Blasi. This couple really stayed true to them and kept their wedding about the things they love. And I love that they used an heirloom cake topper from the bride’s parents’ wedding.
Our colors were emerald green and gold. We had beach themed ceremony on the private island I have grown up spending my summers on and my favorite place in the world. I have always dreamed about having my wedding here. We had to enlist the help of friends from the island to transport our guests back and forth. Our reception was a 1920’s themed party at the Branford House. It seems a little disjointed but it actually worked. I think because everyone knows us and with the 2 events being in different locations it kind of let people change gears.
As with most couples we decided to pick a few big things that were the most important to splurge on and then cut back on other things. The venue and the band were the most important to us. And they were amazing!
Besides the obvious our first kiss as a married couple (which a butterfly flew right in front of us when it happened) and dancing the night away together, we loved sharing the vows we wrote ourselves and sharing our special day not only with all our friends and family but also our dog Memphis. I loved hanging out with the girls in the colorful robes I had made for them from etsy as well as garter-belt flasks.
Half of our centerpieces and all of our decor were DIY. We had candles, bottles, peacock feathers, and old fashion cameras all around. We also had many family member wedding pictures that were a nice touch and guests really loved looking at them. We had a chalkboard my husband’s mother decorated and wrote our signature drinks on and we had a canvas with a tree for people to sign and put a finger print as a tree vs. a guest book. My sister made the flower girl dresses, flower girl baskets, and ring bearer pillow. My father made the arbor we were married under.
The day goes by so fast enjoy every moment! No matter what goes wrong, it all pales in comparison to everything that goes right. For example my dress strap that I had made snapped right as I hugged my mother at the altar. I threw it over my shoulder and pretended like it didn’t happen!
