Today’s orange wedding from Alicia Ann Photographers is so simple and sweet. I love a relaxed summer wedding where you can tell the guests are having tons of fun. The couple chose a bit different timeline for their wedding day, they started off with lawn games before the ceremony. It gave time for guests to mingle and relax and enjoy themselves before sitting down for the vows.
The journey to our wedding day – the designing, the creating, the sharing – was as enjoyable and meaningful as the day itself. Tets and I aimed to craft a day that uniquely celebrated us as individuals, us as life partners, and the loved friends and family who have supported and shaped our lives each step of the way.
We knew that we had found a special place as soon as we stepped through the high stone walls of Edgerton Park in New Haven, CT. It was a green oasis within the urban fabric: mature high canopy trees, community gardens, and a 19th century Carriage House. Our goal was to embed our wedding within this natural setting and erase any boundaries between the two: we drank in the shade of the trees, played games between the rows of flowers, danced on the grass floor, and were married underneath the majestic black oak. We embraced the absence of formality and were humbled by the park’s simple beauty.
We wanted the dinner to feel like a giant family meal, so we set out bottles of wine on long farmhouse tables and invited guests to seat and serve themselves. The wine was all sourced from Tets’s hometown of Walla Walla, WA, which was no small feat given the restrictions on shipping wine between states! Luckily our family and friends offered themselves as wine runners for the cause. The food menu was also a challenge because Tets and I have completely opposite palates. To play off each other’s tastes, we created a menu of contrasting pairings: pork belly sliders versus mushroom sliders; beef carpaccio verses caprese salad; rolled flank steak versus stuffed peppers…just to name a few. We had so much fun playing with the dishes and think that our guests enjoyed the plethora of options available too!
This incredible day was a complicated bag of emotions: joy, fear, excitement, apprehension, pride, humility, and gratitude. We are so grateful to have shared it with those we love most and to have the memories that have made us smile each and every day since.
