Floral Handmade Wedding

Floral prints are one of my favorite new trends for this year and today’s wedding from Stef Atkinson is the perfect example. I’m so in love with the fun floral bridesmaids! And how sweet are the vintage tin cans in lieu of bouquets? The result is a whimsical, colorful, and unique! And I can’t fail to mention the bride is wearing one of my favorite BHLDN gowns (too dreamy!)

Our wedding was the most wonderful day in our lives thus far. Everything went oddly perfect and was beyond our wildest imagination. This didn’t come without some work though. Being such a crafty couple, we wanted to make sure that our day was a total refection of us. Since we had plenty of time to plan, everything was just what we wanted.

We crafted was paper bunting made by using an craft knife to cut hearts out of a Harry Potter book. We then ripped out each page, punched two holes, and strung red and white bakers string between the pages. Staying with our underlying Harry Potter theme, we made our ring box by cutting a “box” down to the chapter titled “The Unbreakable Vow” where our rings were kept throughout the ceremony.

For over a year we collected vintage tins from all sorts of decades and from all sorts of things, cookies, coffee, tobacco, candy, etc. Scouring flea markets, antique shops, and endless Ebay auctions, we finally collected over 80 tins for our center pieces and other decorations. Using flowers grown in our home garden and supplementing from a wholesale flower shop in Nashville, we were able to have wonderfully bright and diverse arrangements. Also, rather than flowers, the girls carried tins which they ended up loving especially when they realized they doubled as a purse.

There were many more hand crafted items and personal touches at our wedding that only added to the eccentricity of our day. Our reception featured many of the Danish traditions such as a waltz that ended in the capturing of the groom and cutting off his tie and tips of his socks, songs and speeches written by family members, and some other funny Danish touches. It was certainly a night to remember and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without our amazing friends and family’s help.
