I absolutely love getting submissions from brides who used Glamour & Grace as a source of inspiration. This gorgeous DIY backyard wedding from sweet bride/reader Kelly is too amazing for words! I just love her Gatsby style! And how amazing are the vintage table cloth backdrops to block the street and create a more intimate space? Such a genius idea for backyard weddings. Oh, and a warning, if you read the letter the groom Jed wrote with his wedding gift to Kelly, you will definitely get teary eyed!
Our story is one of girl meets best friend, boy meets best friend, best friends date, introduce boy and girl, and boy and girl get married. You know, the usual. Kelly met her friend Alex in high school. Jed met his friend Zach in college. Alex and Zach started dating in South Africa. They introduced Kelly and Jed to each other in New York. Kelly and Jed (us) got married, and our journey has taken us from New York to Boston to Los Angeles to our current home in Denver, where we held our wedding.
Our celebration brought together family and friends from each leg of our journey, and we wanted every aspect of the wedding to reflect that. New York City speakeasy, complete with custom cocktails? Check. Fenway Park, featuring fun and games from cornhole to giant jenga? Got it. Old Hollywood, with a custom-made “HOLLYWOOD” sign and a black and white checkered dance floor? Of course!
By providing different settings, we aimed to make everyone feel a little bit at home, and a little bit on the road. Instead of a guestbook we used old postcards. Instead of a cake we had an ice cream truck. Instead of programs we gave people a map. Every detail was about the journey that began the day we met in New York City and brought us across the country and halfway back again, the journey that is love.
