A Pink DIY Burlap and Lace Wedding

Pink, burlap, and lace always look amazing together, and it is so true for today’s Bay area California wedding. There are loads of great DIY details (how lovely is the ceremony arch?!) But the best detail of all? The bride’s smile! Seriously so infectious!

We got engaged on March 9, 2012 while Brian was on a two week leave from Iraq. In the year we were engaged, he was finishing up his MSG duties. Thank goodness for my mom and her almost innate sense of what I wanted and how to craft my ideas to life. She not only kept me sane through the planning process, but kept me happy and excited through the stress. While most girls get to talk to their fiance about this detail or that, we didn’t have that luxury, but we made it work.

The first detail we nailed down was what Brian wanted to wear, and that was his dress blues uniform. Great choice, in my opinion. ;) I didn’t want the colors to coordinate with his uniform, but I also didn’t want them to take away from it either. So, I started playing with fabric at a craft store based on combinations I’d see on pinterest. I loved the textural paradigm of burlap and lace, so that’s where it all started. Pink was an obvious choice to me because its just my favorite :) so that’s what our palette was, beige pulled from the burlap, ivory from the lace details, and pink splashes for a little bit of color.

I got much inspiration from pinterest, and made most of the things I liked instead of buying them, which saved a whole heap of money. We didn’t do anything extravagantly, we wanted everything to stay soft and sweet and simple. Our venues lent themselves to the rustic and vintage vibe, which brought everything full circle. Oh, and the food. We wanted Danielle’s photography and the food we served to be what we concentrated most of our budget on. Because of our travels, we have gotten to taste some of the best dishes in the world and wanted our ‘foodiness’ to be reflected. And it was. Our caterer, Absolute Creations out of San Damon, Ca was amazing. The chef was trained in Europe, so our favorite flavors were represented.
