A Handmade Fall Wedding

Warning: You are absolutely going to fall in love with today’s handmade fall wedding! With it’s amazing location, dreamy dresses, fabulous handmade details, and breath-taking photography, it is easily one of my all time favorites! This wedding is such a great example of why I love handmade weddings, and the bride Karla says it best: We wanted our special day to be a product of our love and hard work to symbolize the commitment we were making to each other. DIY isn’t always about going the cheaper route. It’s about being involved in the best day of your life and creating memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. If you aren’t planning on creating anything yourself for your wedding, I really encourage you to do so. Even the smallest and simplest detail can really add so much more meaning to your day.

The stunning bride Karla shares:

Our wedding was at Pebble Hill Plantation in Thomasville, Georgia (a place I drove by growing up all the time but never really got to experience the beauty of the place). It was important for us to have a place that felt comfortable, cozy, and naturally beautiful as our wedding backdrop.

We also wanted our special day to be a product of our love and hard work to symbolize the commitment we were making to each other – that is why we did just about everything ourselves: I made all the bouquets with a couple of my bridesmaids as well as the candles in the mason jars that served as the party favors, the table numbers and the directional signs to point guests in the right direction. My mom made the ribbon wands used in our entrance to the reception and gathered hundreds of pinecones for decoration (she even turned an old coffee table into a kids chalk board activity table to keep them busy at the reception), my grandmother sewed the Mr. and Mrs. sashes that adorned our chairs and she also sewed the flower girl dresses. Andrew made all of the wooden planter boxes that were our centerpieces at the reception, he also made the corn hole boards that were used during our cocktail hour. It was a group effort and the fact that so many people put time and love into our wedding is the most precious gift of all.

My favorite part of the day was sneaking a peek at Andrew and the groomsmen with my two nieces (flower girls) from the cottage that overlooked our ceremony site. Another memorable moment was of course walking down the brick steps of the aisle with my dad towards Andrew. Then at the reception dancing with Andrew and spinning on the dance floor with my dress flowing around me (we meet in a ball room dance class in college, so dancing together has a special place in our hearts). Lastly, it was so special to spend the night at the cottage that was on the plantation and waking up to a beautiful morning, looking out our bedroom window to the exact spot where we were married knowing that it all wasn’t a dream.
