Wildflower Summer Wedding

Nothing says summer like bright colorful wildflowers and this wedding from Erin Lee Allender Photography is filled with summery goodness! The bride’s mom made all the cute embroidery details and the pies for the reception, making a sweetly personalized and vibrant event.

We wanted our wedding to just feel like a fun summer cookout for all our friends and family where we just happened to get married. Aaron is also a big history buff, so the fact that Ravenswood had such a beautiful outdoor space with the historic house in a convenient part of town for our guest made it the perfect location for us. I love brightly colored flowers, and I wanted wildflowers to be the main source of color for the wedding. The rest of the decor centered around the flowers.

I obviously wanted to look beautiful on my wedding day, but I also wanted to feel comfortable and like myself. That’s why I opted to forgo the veil. It just felt like too much! All I knew was I wanted a lace dress, and the one I landed on had beautiful Spanish lace that layered a casual daisy print lace with a more traditional lace and a little bit of sparkle. I like that the uniqueness was subtle and in the details. For the bridal party, my main concern was not clashing with the rainbow of wildflowers that I wanted. So, the cleanest look I could think of was white! All my bridesmaids picked their own white sundresses to wear, and I love the effect it created with the pop of color from the bouquets.

My mom is incredibly talented and crafty. So, in addition to baking all the pies for our wedding, she also did some beautiful embroidery work that made for a lovely and unique addition to the wedding. She made the ring bearer pillow, all the table numbers and my handkerchief. Each of the 24 table numbers had a different wildflower design and color scheme. It was a detail that so many people commented on as being unique, and I was so proud to be able to shock them with the fact that my mom had done all of them by hand! She also sewed my bridesmaid’s initials on the pajamas that we wore while getting ready.

My family is all about the pie, and I think one of the first things that sold Aaron on my family was my mom’s apple pie. So the dessert choice seemed like a great opportunity to be a little more personal by serving pie instead of cake. My mom baked 30 pies, cherry, apple and pecan, in the months leading up to the wedding. They were stored across the city in various friend’s freezers. It was really special to us to be able to share that piece of our family with our guests.
