Industrial Copper Santa Fe Wedding

This industrial chic Santa Fe wedding from Maura Jane Photography is full of sweet DIY details. From the potted succulent favors to the hand-painted acrylic signage, every detail was thoughtfully created with meaning to the couple. We love the adorable grandmas who were flower girls!

We are fans of all things ART. Photography, painting, acting, dancing, etc. We wanted a place that was clean, bright, had straight lines. A place that didn’t have too much color, that would clash with our own decor. Living in the southwest, most architecture consists of rounded edges, adobe, stucco and brown, lots and lots of brown. I was going for a modern, elegant and classy and industrial look. Colors were black and white, with copper accents. We opted for Santa Fe, NM because it wouldn’t be too far of a drive for our guests, but still give everyone an excuse to leave the city for a bit.

I wanted the bridesmaids dresses to match the color of the succulents. They were the POP of color. The men were to just be in a classic tux and tie. They all had fun socks on which they chose.

Having our grandmothers as flower girls was important to us. I hear they stole the show. Michael’s grandmother left mine behind. She high-tailed it down the aisle! It was still a great moment. Everyone was laughing and loved watching them come down the aisle.

We wanted a small intimate wedding and only people who are actively part of our life. People that were going to hold us accountable to our vows, guide us as husband and wife. We did make sure we splurged on the DJ and food. Food and music are a major part of our Latino culture. The color copper which was incorporated was also something very special. It symbolized copper from a penny. A lucky penny was something Michael and his dad looked for before every wrestling match from when he was 5 years old until he was 17. It was their thing.

The pots which had the baby succulents were a DIY project, as well as the chairs, and chargers. The chairs were spray painted black (this took hours upon hours). I could not find black chairs anywhere, then I found these mid-century, modern, plastic yellow chairs that were PERFECT! I just needed them black! My husband and our best man spent hours working on laser cutting geometric shaped custom copper chargers. I created my own design on the invites and picked special linen paper for printing. All table numbers and signage were hand painted on copper colored acrylic.

Surprising my husband with the car that was similar to the one his late father used to drive in high school was one of the highlights of the day for me. Finding this particular car took months and almost did not happen. The look in his eyes, the gasp he made, the moment he was speechless and cried a little, will be my favorite moment forever. Our ride to the venue, was also a moment for just him and I. We cruised down the road to our forever in a 56′ Chevy, while we listened to Smokey Robinson’s Cruise With Me Baby.
