Hip Industrial Wedding

A record guest book, temporary tattoo favors, and a cookie cake: could today’s wedding be any cooler? We are loving this industrial wedding from Keestone Events captured by Lauren Apel. You can really tell the couple put a lot of effort into making sure all their guests had a blast!

Our vision came from our mutual love of all things industrial and minimal. We loved the idea of keeping the decor and venue simple because we wanted to focus our energy into the commitment behind the celebration. However, we did love bringing our wedding vision to life through details! The easiest thing to choose was our color scheme. We chose to have a grey scale wedding because it reflected our everyday style perfectly. We loved the idea of getting married in the new city we were moving to so we got married in the heart of Dallas, in Deep Ellum.

I work in fashion, so I knew that finding the dress would be the most important and easiest decision for me! I knew pretty quickly what style I wanted and found it at Lovely Bride in Dallas! It was a twist on a classic lace gown with a deep v in the front and back. It also had a slit revealing blush and white tulle in the front. I chose to wear a long veil for the ceremony and take it off for the reception. I would literally wear it everyday if I could! And for my bridesmaids the choice was easy because I work for Show Me Your MUMU on the wholesale side and I knew how wonderful their bridesmaid gowns were!

I don’t work in fashion, so I really had to step up my game to impress my fashionista wife! I wanted a style that I couldn’t find anywhere; a light grey suit with a thin black shawl. Finally a friend recommended the online-tailoring site Hockerty, and I was able to design my own custom jacket! I went with ASOS pants, sleek black leather chelsea boots from Zara, and a bowtie from The Tie Bar. I didn’t want my groomsmen to have to spend a lot of money (I’m tired of buying suits for weddings). So I picked out a shirt from Brooks Brothers to get close to my suit, and had them wear black pants and black bowties. It was very considerate for them, and it still looked good!

The diamond in Lila’s ring was given to me by her parents when I asked them to marry her. It is an old european diamond, pre 1940s, belonging to her great grandmother, Lila. She was a strong woman, and the namesake for my wife. It felt so special to design a custom ring around a completely unique diamond celebrating her legacy.

We knew Brake and Clutch was our venue as soon as we saw it. It was stunningly undone in the best way: exposed brick, concrete floors, piping overhead, and all the original charm of the warehouse! We decided to keep the farm tables simple, we strung them with greenery and vintage candle holders with black tapered candles.

We had custom temporary tattoos designed with our faces on it. It was hilarious. Such a memorable thing to have, and not expensive at all. We signed the freshly tattooed head of someone after the reception!

We chose a non-traditional wedding cake because neither of us like wedding cake! We decided to have a multi-tier cookie cake filled with cream between each layer. It was delicious! We had mini cookie sandwiches passed to our guests.

I surprised Lila with a live performance of a song I wrote for her. I knelt in front of her and played, and it honestly felt like a show for one. Also we planned to have 15 minutes alone locked in the bridal suite to process and eat. I loved this calm moment after the ceremony and before the reception! We also loved the size of our wedding, roughly 230-250 guests, because we got to speak to almost everyone there and say more than just hello!

We wanted to invest in decorations we could keep. So we designed this awesome neon sign in cool white from Neon Poodle. They were great to work with, and it really completed the space. The sign looked so dope, and people loved it. Now we have it in our apartment and we love it still!
