Glam DIY Wedding

When you start off your wedding day getting ready in your childhood home, you know it is going to be special. We love this sweet DIY wedding from Imagine It Photography!

The vision for the wedding was “modern romantic” — classic and elegant, but with a contemporary feel. Emily has always loved classic neutrals, so the color palette was primarily white, gold and champagne, with mixed metals — and pink bridesmaid dresses and pink ribbons in some of the flowers for touches of color. Lakewood Country Club was the perfect venue — its clean, classic design aesthetic was ideal for Emily’s taste, and Colin (a huge golfer) was thrilled to have the wedding at a private club that hosts tour-level events.

I wanted my gown to be romantic and elegant, with a touch of drama, so chose a long, backless gown in a somewhat unexpected color — the underlay of the gown was “moscato” (similar to champagne, but with a bit more pink) and the overlay was ivory. I also wore a cathedral length veil.

We wanted our wedding to be beautiful, but we also really wanted our guests to have fun. We always kept the experience of our guests top of mind, making sure we would have great drinks, delicious food and plenty of dancing!

We displayed wedding photos of our parents and grandparents on the cake table to showcase all the people who helped shape us into who we are and bring us together. Also, Colin’s family is English, and his grandmother gifted Emily with a sixpence brought from England to wear in her shoe on the wedding day. Everyone knows “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” but not many realize the last line is “and a sixpence in her shoe.”

In addition to our wedding cake, we delivered plates of desserts to each table; these included mini cheesecakes (labeled with small signs as “Colin’s favorite”) and truffles (labeled as “Emily’s favorite”) to treat our guests to some of our favorite desserts. Also, the place card table in the venue’s entrance featured a stunning floral arrangement created by Emily’s mother, which included a gorgeous letter “B” made of vintage pins and beads, to tie to our new monogram.
