Handmade Barn Wedding

Sharing this charming handmade barn wedding from Annie Steele Photography today. The couple really DIY’d as much as possible. The ceremony backdrop made from fabric from old prom dresses is a genius idea. The bride also saved money by buying a white bridesmaid dress and personalizing it with a beautiful capelet. And I love that the groom, who is a drummer, played for his bride walking down the aisle. So sweet!

Our location was a forest preserve barn and we stuck with a country homemade theme. We are blessed with many talented friends who did everything including makeup and hair, flowers, desserts, wedding cake and DJ. Anything we could DIY we tried to do that. We wanted it to be as comfortable as possible.

Kathryn made the altar from the fabric of my high school prom dress and some old ladders.

It was important for us to find a location that would allow us to order in our own specialty craft beer and use homemade desserts, and also feel very comfortable.

The location did not allow real candles due to it being a historic building so we added fabric to some flameless candles for the interior of the barn. The center pieces were made from old sheet music, a wood slice, and a mason jar filled with beautiful wildflowers that our friend designed. My mom put some time into searching for dishware from local thrift stores for our mix match dishware sets. The dinner rolls wrapped in wax paper and baker’s twine were purchased from our neighborhood bakery.

Feeling the support from our family and friends, and marveling in the amazing talent that came together to make the day possible. Mike drummed the siblings and Kathryn down the aisle, we were married by Mike’s cousin and Kathryn’s parents read a prayer during the ceremony.
