White Winter Vintage Wedding

I have been so excited waiting to share this amazing winter vintage wedding from Two Birds Photography! It is the perfect amount of vintage glamour with modern touches and handmade details. And I absolutely love the 3rd generation wedding gown, such a treasure and great tradition!

The inspiration for our day came from vintage piano music sheet covers and my family wedding dress. The sheet music illustrated colorful scenes depicting couples dancing together through out the eras. I responded most to the looks from the 1940’s and 1920’s. My grandmother’s dress was from the 40’s and she wore it in 1942. My mom wore it in 1981 and luckily kept it looking very classic. I was also inspired by the winter season and took design cues that included a festive, candle-lit glow without being overly holiday. Lots of sparkle mixed with white flowers and cotton to create an ethereal and snowy feel.

The best part of the day was exchanging our own vows. They were true testaments of love to each other and we worked hard to make them entertaining, meaningful and memorable. They were a surprise to each other and wonderful! We did have a first look before the wedding so we could take pictures before the ceremony.

The dress was a big DIY project because I had to have it restored and then I redesigned the bodice significantly. It was a labor of love but well worth it. I also collected all 130 silver, milk glass and cut glass vases used the various centerpieces. I made the table numbers as well with supplies from Paper Source.

I think it’s most important to identify the three most meaningful things to you as a couple for your day and make sure those are where you invest your time and money. Everyone has different priorities in planning the affair, and you’ve got to hold true to what matters to you. Let some of the other stuff slide. It’s never going to be perfect, but if those three things are perfect you’ll be happy. Also as a DIY gal…pick two projects and have fun, don’t go overboard.
